From mama's breast to our adult breakfast, food is a primary pleasure of most people.
Traditional foods and celebrations like
Thanksgiving bring deep feelings of comfort and a sense of security. Family meals have been proven to bring countless benefits such as:
Better academic performance
Higher self-esteem
Greater sense of resilience
Lower risk of substance abuse
Lower risk of teen pregnancy
Lower risk of depression
Lower likelihood of developing eating disorders
Lower rates of obesity
But despite these claims, I wondered why do we see an epidemic of obesity and related health problems at younger and younger ages? From listening to my patients that struggle with hormonal imbalance, prediabetes, PCOS, adrenal burn-out, auto immune disorders, infections, obesity and more; I have come to realize how strong the attachment to traditional foods is. The comfort and convenience is difficult to refuse when we are stressed out and hungry.
It's also challenging to replicate healthy traditional foods in our modern society because the supply of local unprocessed, fresh foods has dwindled and is not as readily available or as cheap as most marketed products, which compromise quality for profits.
I also understood that the prevous generation of family cooks are often uniformed about the toxic or diminished quality of our food sources. Understandably, healthy food choices which may seem foreign and cold are not as valued as the LEGACY of food traditions.
There is good news though! Healthy food choices do not have to be foreign or cold. Equipped with a little knowledge, traditional comfort foods can be incorporated into your new LEGACY of healthy family food traditions.
To help you get started, I am offering a free 10-day detox program to help jumpstart this goal, in the hopes that this Thanksgiving we can include robust health when we count our blessings. Subscribe to my emails for updates on creating a new LEGACY, and keep posted for the 10 day offering in the coming days.
With health blessings,
Judy
